Introduction to World Religions program
Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church has been a member of the local InterFaith Quinte Committee since its inception in 2009. One of the programs that we offer, in partnership with InterFaith Quinte is an Introduction to World Religions program.
This is a basic, yet in-depth study and exploration of the great World Religions. This introduction to world religions will explore the basic beliefs and practices of the enduring religions of the world, and also some of the religions many of us are unfamiliar with. With so much misinformation, prejudice and stereotypes of other religions within church and society, it is important for us to learn the authentic beliefs, customs and practices of the world’s religions so that we can overcome these prejudices and stereotypes!
The program will include videos, discussion, handouts and special guest speakers representing one of the world religions we will be learning about! The program will begin by exploring the Western religions (Zoroastrianism, Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Baha’i), moving into the Eastern religions (Hinduism, Jainism, Buddhism, Sikhism) and will end with the Balance religions (Taoism, Shinto, Native Spirituality, Wicca).
Our scheduled date and time for our sessions is Monday evenings at 7:00 pm.
Our final session will be on Monday, July 8 and we will be watching a National Geographic documentary titled "In God's Name". This documentary explores the complex questions of our time through the intimate thoughts and beliefs of 12 of the world's most influential spiritual leaders. These diverse and powerful voices offer provocative, compelling and enlightening perspective on myriad issues in our post-9/11 world, including the rise of terrorism, fanaticism, intolerance and war.
Please join us as we learn about the great and enduring religions of our world...come explore our similarities and appreciate our differences...broaden our understanding and knowledge of world religions!
All are welcome!!
